demons

(please note yesterday’s post on Angels has been updated to be more accurate and now includes more Bible verses)

From the beginning of time the human race has had a fascination with demons…. the lore, the legends and the occult….

…. and it’s still going on TODAY…..  most “modern” people may not bow down to images…. or sacrifice animals to the devil…. but they all seem to love movies dealing with hauntings, zombies and demon posession….. and what about the video games featuring characters with “superpowers” battling for “good” and “evil” ?…. the appearance of these graphical characters are taken right out of “occultic” books depicting demons.

The imagery used in music videos …. “Umbrella” and “Disturbia” by Rihanna…. “Alejandro” by Lady Gaga…… either designed to fuel this fascination with the macabre and demonology/posession OR representing posession of the singers themselves.

But whether you believe they are posessed or not, one need look no further than the stage antics and performance to see that the LEWD and CRUDE behavior could not possibly please God.

Humans either fear or embrace demons….. but true Christians need not fear them, we have the precious Holy Spirit manifesting in our lives the Power of God…. our bodies are temples of the Most High….. nothing evil can ever hurt us, except by permission of God, to test us and strengthen our character or deepen our Faith…. and God is always protecting us even in times of testing…. Matthew 28:20, Hebrews 13:5

You will hardly find anything about demons in the Old Testament but in the Gospels, Jesus cast them out of people.

The Bible does not tell us about them… because there is really no need to study them… we are instead to focus on God…. who is presented as our ultimate all-sufficiency…

People seek to use the power of demons to gain knowledge, power and money to get ahead in life…. to get an “advantage” over the rest of mankind… when they should be seeking the Lord instead and asking of Him the questions… why else would anyone want to know about demons ?…. occultism is an abomination to God, because it represents man’s effort to gain “knowledge” apart from Him… it is consorting with the “enemy”.

Leviticus 17:7 and Deuteronomy 32:17… make it abundantly clear that sacrifices to idols are in fact sacrifices to demons…..

The Gospels tell us of demons causing sickness and disability in humans….. as well as irrational (mental) behavior (madness)…. but the Word also makes a distinction,  because sickness, disability and madness also have natural causes also.

Demons can enter both people and animals and control their behavior (Mark 5:2 – 5, Mark 5:11 -13)

They earnestly seek embodiment (Matthew 12:43 – 45)

They can pass from one person to another through sex……  and homosexual demons are of a more powerful variety, they manifest sullen and violent behavior (the person can seem to be the nicest of people… but once the demon manifests (gains control), they have violent temper tantrums, nasty attitudes, spiteful, malicious behaviors).

Demons know Jesus Christ is Most High God and they know their fate is eternal torment….  they do their best to make sure that their host victim never gets “born again” or comes in contact with true believers (who can discern them)…  they may enjoy spiritually-dead “religion” and false piety (asceticism) but this ultimately degenerates into uncleanness and blasphemy… they are sexually debased… they control their host victim through fear and through pain and sickness (as they can manifest all manner of symptoms in the host body)

All unbelievers are open to demonic influence (2 Timothy 2:26, Ephesians 2:2)… but long term posession usually takes place under the following conditions:

1. When a person is not actively controlling their  own body  (like under the influence of drugs or alcohol)….  or “opening their mind” in trances, hypnosis or meditation

2. Illicit sex…. fornication, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism

3. Occultic practices…. ghost hunting, paranormal investigating, ritual chanting and incantation.

4. Inheritance… passed on from parents i.e. “family” demons

5. Childhood trauma

Demons can be cast out by born-again believers acting in the Name of Jesus Christ and through the Power of the Holy Spirit…. or they can be removed by God Himself (in the absence of a human instrument)….. but unless the “delivered” person receives the Holy Spirit through surrender to the Lordship of Christ, the demons can come back at a later date (Matthew 12:43 – 45), therefore what is the point of delivering people who dont want to love God and follow Jesus ??

Prayer for Today:

Loving Heavenly Father, Thank you for your protection from evil and we ask that we might be a blessing to others…. fill us with your Holy Spirit and enable us to bear fruit as we abide in Jesus… please have mercy on our island and forgive our sin…. as the people go out to “play” in the streets tomorrow, convict the ones that should not be there… let them see it for what it is… and may they be ASHAMED of their behavior and not return to it next year…. we ask now for mercy on our island home, in Jesus name. Amen.

NOTICE OF EXPLANATION: for our foreign readers… tomorrow is Crop Over Festival on my island of Barbados…. a public holiday filled with drunkenness, revelings, lasciviousness, lusts and carousings (1 Peter 4:3)….. as most of the population parades in the street half-naked… perhaps this is why I felt led of the Holy Spirit to write on this topic at this time. How far our nation has fallen from the Godly fear of our ancestors…. now they worship materialism, money and pleasure…. and not God… but even so, there is a GODLY REMNANT on this island who will not take part… and who will be praying for them and for our island…. that their wickedness may be forgiven them.

angels

Angels are created beings and they have (or had in the distant past) free-will….. some of them chose to follow satan in his rebellion against GOD (2 Peter 2:4, Matthew 25:41).

They are spirits but can appear to men in various ways (sometimes they appear as “not completely human…. probably they glow or have non-human powers” (Luke 2:15) and sometimes they appear completely human (Hebrews 13:2)).

The Angel of the LORD… was not an “ordinary” angel….. but an appearance of Jesus Christ in “angel-like” (glowing with superhuman abilities)  form in the Old Testament …. in Judges 13:18 , He said His name was “Wonderful”… which is one of the names ascribed to Jesus in Isaiah 9:6… other appearances of Jesus in “superhuman” form (Daniel 3:25, Judges 2:1 – 4, Judges 6:11 – 24, Judges 13:6 – 23)…

In our human state, angels are much more powerful than we are (Psalms 8:5, Matthew 13:39, 2 Peter 2:11, Revelation 7:2, Revelation 9:15, Revelation 12:7- 9, 2 Samuel 24:16 – 17)

But apparently, our ultimate destiny is higher than theirs (Hebrews 2:7 – 9, 1 Corinthians 6:3)

Angels are assigned to churches, nations and individuals (Revelation 3:14, Daniel 10:13, Matthew 18:10)…. in the case of nations, satan assigns his evil angels (evil angels are called demons) to influence them… in the case of Israel, GOD sent Michael, an archangel (very powerful) to protect and guide them… the above Scripture gives us an insight into the angelic war that is being fought constantly.

The angels (and demons) can observe everything that we do…. (1 Corinthians 4:9, Ephesians 3:10)

Despite their great power and authority, God uses them to look after us Christians, “the heirs of salvation and children of God”…. ensuring our physical safety and well-being…. and this care begins in infancy and extends throughout our lives (1 Kings 19:5, Psalms 34:7, Psalms 91:11, Daniel 6:22, Mathew 2:13, Matthew 4:11, Matthew 18:10, Hebrews 1:14)

We are forbidden to worship them (Revelation 22:8 -9)

Prayer for today:

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for caring so much about us that you rescued us from evil  (when the fallen angels have no such option).

Thank you for the gift of your Son, to be our saviour, lord, friend and guide…. grant that we may overcome the world, the flesh and the devil through your Holy Spirit… and be pleasing in your sight… both now and forevermore. Amen.

WARNING: In our “technological” age…. it is thought that the ancient humans were visited by “aliens” posessing superior technology that they did not understand….  therefore good and evil are reduced to impersonal concepts or “forces”….  the aliens are “gods” only because they have the technology and they “manipulated” ancient humans easily…. this FAIRY TALE (concocted out of human pride and arrogance started with satan) makes a mockery of both the Bible record, the Way of Salvation and even the Holiness of GOD….. the program “Ancient Aliens” that airs on the History Channel asks lots of questions which nobody can answer and the whole purpose of it is to cast DOUBT on the Word of God….. and cause people to QUESTION their FAITH in GOD and His revealed plan for mankind.

sinner

Many people believe they are only a sinner if they commit sins but this is actually incorrect….  Romans 3:23 “For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God”

the truth is everybody (without exception) is a sinner and because of this they may commit a variety of “sins” at any time… past, present or future.

Even if you could be successful at “improving yourself” and “overcoming your sinning” to the point where you “sin no more”  (which is seemingly impossible “ideal”)…. you would STILL be a sinner, because that is who you are, you were BORN that way… you are a sinner by birth….  Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men… ”  ….. and this idea offends people…. “what you mean my “good” children are all sinners ?”…. EXACTLY.

So what does GOD say about this ?….. Jesus said you must be BORN AGAIN…. (John 3:3)  and Nicodemus did not have the slightest idea what He meant.

But everyone who has been “born again” knows what He means… they manifest the evidence of this in their persons.

they have TWO personalities to deal with…  the OLD MAN (original sinning nature) must daily be “put to death” so that the NEW MAN can grow…   and your life change under the direction of the Holy Spirit….  Romans 6:11 “…. reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ, our Lord”… “reckon” means “count on the fact, RELY upon the fact”….. remember the verse that says “as a man thinketh so is he” (Proverbs 23:7)… believe it and it will eventually be true in your experience.

The big difference between a “born again” believer and a “good” heathen is that the believer has the power of God working in them to overcome sin… they are not trying to do  it on their own (impossible to please God that way)….. and IF they will only yield to Him daily they will realize it in their experience.

Unfortunately, the “good” heathen is damned along with the rest of sinners that he despises…. and the world just cant deal with that…. so they “invent” all kinds of “religions” to make them feel good….  they keep telling themselves that they will be OK in the hereafter because they are better than so-an-so…. or because they do this or that ritual (baptism, confirmation, communion or whatever).

Prayer for today:

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for saving my soul and giving me your Holy Spirit…. may He have control of my life as He enables me to put Your wishes above my own…. in Jesus name. Amen.

Test of the “born again” believer…. you have a yearning inside you for fellowship with your Father and you actually enjoy reading the Bible… it is doubtful you would continue reading my posts every day if you were not “born again”…. my posts are directed by God for YOUR benefit, to bring you into closer fellowship with Him.

prayer

Prayer is talking to God (either by speaking or in your mind)…..  He may answer us by thought, voice, vision, dream, miracle….  or He may not answer us at all….. but whether He answers us or not He has “heard” our prayer….. so why would He not answer ?

1. Sin and insincerity…  sinners “mock” God and may say things to Him out of anger or unbelief… they have no reverence for His Holiness and so He just ignores such insolent behaviour.

2. Unbelief and Lack of Faith….  if you do not believe that He hears you and/or you do not believe He will do what you are asking Him for…. why should He answer you or pay any attention to your prayer ?

3. Patience and Testing – If He does not answer right away, it does not mean that He will not do what you have requested of Him… if you love Him and are genuinely sincere you must continue in faith believing that He has your good in His Heart…. there was nothing “wrong” with Mary and Martha’s dedication to Jesus….. but He did not respond to their request until Lazarus had been dead four days…. the final result was a “greater” miracle… Mary and Martha got what they wanted (Lazarus alive and well)… and many of the Jews believed on Him as a result of the whole episode (John 11:45)….. my brothers and sisters, who love the LORD, you MUST believe that God has your BEST ULTIMATE GOOD in His Heart even when He appears to ignore you…. your dedication to Him must be absolute EVEN when you dont understand His ways.

4. Free will – God has given every person free will, and if you are praying for somebody other than yourself, their free will may delay the answer… for example… it pleases God when you earnestly pray for the salvation of your unsaved relatives (and He will bless you for doing so)… however, their salvation also depends on their own free will and although God can make circumstances favorable to “turning to Him”….  ultimately it is THEIR choice…. God does not want robots, so the answer to your prayer remains uncertain even though it is good and right for you to pray such prayers.

Consider the following:

Psalms 102:17 “He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.”

Proverbs 15:8 “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.”

Proverbs 15:29 “The LORD is far from the wicked, but he heareth the prayer of the righteous”

Matthew 6:7 tells us not to use “vain repetition” (like chants in prayer books) but to pray from your heart BELIEVING that He hears you…. Matthew 21:22  emphasizes the importance of FAITH (believing) in getting an answer… praying to God without believing that He will hear or respond…  is surely an INSULT to Him…. I mean, why bother ?

Mark 11:24 “Therefore, I say unto you, Whatsoever things ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” ….. this is a favorite with the prosperity preachers, they use it to justify their immense mega-million fortunes….. but does all this wealth mean they are pleasing God ? will this wealth get them into Heaven or prevent them from ever going there ?…. through faith, He gives us what we want, but it is our RESPONSIBILITY to have “wants” that are in keeping with His Word….. a Spiritual life that has eternal value….. not a life filled with material abundance that glorifies our flesh…. “for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21 and Luke 12:34)

While in His human body, Jesus needed prayer just like us, “And it came to pass in those days, that he went  out into a mountain to pray, and CONTINUED ALL NIGHT IN PRAYER TO GOD” (Luke 6:12)….. you can be sure, He was not asking God for land, houses and plenty money in the bank to spend upon Himself.

Phillipians 4:6 …. I have used this before in previous posts… look it up, this is a good one to learn by heart and always remember.

James 5:15 – 16  … shows us the power of prayer for health and forgiveness…. the doctor is NOT the first thing that should come into your head when you feel sick…. prayer is where you should start seeking an answer about your sickness…. God sometimes uses sickness to get our attention (people are usually a little more receptive to Him when they are sick) or to build our character… but sickness is not part of His plan for His servants (in the majority of cases)… and He is well able to heal you and keep you well when you are in His service.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing” ….. does not mean 24 hours a day….  but it means “do not give up on prayer”…. do not allow regular prayer (during the day)  to slip out of your life (or you will backslide for sure).

Prayer:

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for hearing our prayers and guide us as to how we should pray… let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in thy sight… both now and forevermore. Amen
