Forgiveness

Wherefore, I say unto thee, Her sins which are many are forgiven; for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. (Luke7:47)

It is not that there are bigger sins and smaller sins as far as salvation is concerned…… ANY sin no matter how small is enough to condemn a person to hell.

The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:4 and 18:20)

What is meant here is that, the woman perceived how great her sins were and therefore she loved much…. because she appreciated the magnitude of her forgiveness…. it is our conception of our sinfullness that determines our love for God.

If we think our sins are small then we may also think forgiveness of them is “no big deal”

But our perception of sin and our knowledge of God go hand in hand.

As we come to know God better and better, then we realize the awefullness of our own sins….. and the magnitude of our forgiveness….. and our love for Him is increased.

The reason “bad” sinners love more when saved is precisely because they KNOW they are “terrible people” (and are considered so by everyone else)…. therefore their hopelessness (apart from God’s forgiveness) is really apparent to them.

Tomorrow we will look at our forgiveness of other people.
