There are many statements in the Bible that  SEEM to contradict each other… but on closer inspection… we readily see that they BALANCE OUT each other…. the HARDEST thing for humans to do is have a BALANCED approach to anything.

For example:

1. Children were exploited in  the 18th Century…. so in the 21st Century, we move to protect children…. but we dont simply remove the exploitation, we give them so many “rights” under the law… that parents are even afraid of them…. so fearful are they of using discipline…. that the children grow up UNDISCPLINED and the next generation will be even worse.

2. In the “old days” there was so much “modesty” that sex was never discussed openly at all… and people were encouraged along the lines of sexual repression….. seeking freedom of expression was the automatic result of this self-inflicted “repression”…. but when the “liberation” comes … do they settle for a BALANCED outlook….. NO ! …. now they swing to the other EXTREME…. and ALL morality and “decency” is tossed out the window.

Humans are given to extremes.

The BIBLE puts the BRAKES on EXTREME positions….. with verses that can readly be seen to condemn BOTH extremes (so naturally they appear to contradict)….. the goal is BALANCE.

That is why humans have such a hard time reconciling the LOVE of GOD with His HOLINESS (manifested in JUDGEMENT).

Today, we are focusing on His GREAT LOVE and MERCY towards those that FEAR Him…… and we use the word “FEAR” to mean REVERENCE and RESPECT and NOT dread or terror.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10, Psalm 111:10)

The eyes of the LORD run to and fro thoughout the whole earth, to show himself  strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards him…. (2 Chronicles 16:9)

Is anything too hard for the Lord ? … (Genesis 18:14. Jeremiah 32:27)

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isaiah 57:15)

God is well able to do whatever is needed in your life… and He WANTS to meet your needs… How can you not feel LOVE and WORSHIP for such a GOD as this ?

Here are  the words of a Hymn, which I can say from experience is accurate.

“O hope of every contrite heart, O joy of all the meek, To those who ask , how kind thou art !  How good to those who seek !”

“But what to those who find ? Ah! this… Nor tongue nor pen can show, The love of Jesus, what it is….   None but His loved ones know.”

contrast this with the lot of the wicked…. what is the lot of the wicked ?

There is NO PEACE, says my God, to the wicked (Isaiah 57:21)
