Five Minutes with the Word of God update

Hello Dear Friends,

A week has passed and I found a way to improve the video quality even though I have not obtained additional video lights as yet, so this next episode is much improved and I trust the short message will minister to your hearts.

I know that it is God’s Will that I continue these short messages on Youtube each week…. but do I need to put a message in here every time I upload another episode ?….. perhaps not, as you can go straight to my video channel and I have created a Playlist for the messages to be added to…. so they will be all available in one place as a series.

It takes considerably longer to write on this blog than it does to make the short video message….. but I have a backlog of messages on Facebook that I need to put here before they sink too deep into the Timeline (of forgetfulness ?).

In this internet world, it’s all about the ‘now’ …. what did you publish today ? …. but I had hoped that timeless message that took me so long to write would remain easily found in Google….. but with the vast volume of internet publishing that is going on worldwide the chances of anybody finding an old message seem dismal.

Why not send me some feedback ? I would love to hear from my readers.

DISCIPLESHIP DISCIPLINE

One of the hardest things for Christians to maintain is DISCIPLESHIP…. Christians have a tendency to separate their lives into “time for God” and “time for me”…. even Christians who have made Jesus Lord over their lives stray away from such “Lordship” (sometimes without even realizing it) because the pull of the flesh and the “me” is so strong.

Lordship…. the Greek talks about “bond slaves” to Christ… implies no rights whatsoever….. it must ALL be about Christ and not about “me”…. you can have your plans and “serve” God in the machinery of the Church (or by personal witnessing) “when convenient” but that is NOT discipleship.

But you say that is incredible ! …. you mean to tell me, I must be serving day and night doing the work of God and nothing else ? ….. what about “work”, “family” and “recreation” ….. I have to work…. I have family responsibilities…. and I need recreation…. how unreasonable can God be ?

Aaah, my friend, therein lies the real challenge to the ‘self’…… don’t you not think that God knows you need these things ?…… even bond slaves have ‘off time’ to sleep rest and recover ? …… did not Christ call His disciples to come away and rest a while (Mark 6:31) ?

and yet…. and yet…  it is SOO easy …. after having a God sanctioned ‘rest period’ to PROLONG the fleshly indulgence….. a little MORE rest….. a little MORE recreation… a few MORE things that I want or need to do….. more…. money, work, family time, recreation time…. whatever….

Friends…. the ONLY way …. to keep the “living sacrifice” on the altar is to bind it with cords (Psalm 118:27, Romans 12:1)…. in real life this is achieved by the DISCIPLINE of prayer and Bible study (NOT reading a short passage and rattling of a few items of prayer)…. but by spending quality time with God ….. why is this ‘discipline’ ?…. I mean don’t you love God and want to spend time with Him ? ….. believe me, it’s discipline, when a packed schedule of ‘important’ activities awaits…..  as God blesses a Christian their schedule can easily become so ‘incredibly packed with stuff to do’ that whatever time they used to spend with God gets compromised….. and gradually all their ‘good resolutions’ to get deeper with God begin to fade….. the cords stretch and pop and the ‘living’ sacrifice is off the alter again and galloping off somewhere else.

A good test of our condition is this …. are we aware of God’s involvement at all times… in our business…. in our recreation…. in our ‘day to day’ activities…… are we listening for Him to tell us…. ‘enough now, I want you to do this or that’….. this may seem a bit ‘robotic’ to some….. but if God is sharing our day-to-day lives (a constant companion with whom we interact continually…. which is what it actually means , by ‘living in God’s presence’)… AND He is also our Lord and Master….. then we need to take the cue from Him….. and the problem with humans is that either they get a little too cozy with ‘friend’ concept or they get a little too cozy with the Master concept….. meaning they don’t recognize His cue to get back to work OR they don’t recognize His cue to stop working and relax respectively…

In the first case the sacrifice gallops off…. and in the second case the sacrifice dies (victim of self-imposed (rather than God ordained) asceticism…. but the fact is ruining your mental or physical health thinking you are doing ‘God’s will’ serves no beneficial purpose whatsoever unless God has specifically instructed you to do this and He will give you an extra portion of Grace if such is the case…… God NEVER tells people to do what He does not equip them for…..

So if you are dedicated to God …. be wary of being too ‘comfortable’ or of being ‘too overworked’ ….. how do you know if you are overworked ?….. here are the signs that God has NOT called you to ‘overwork’….. you are irritable and miserable…. you think that others don’t work hard enough and you have to do all the work….. you think that your hard work and self-sacrifice entitles you to something (you must be somebody special to God more than all “those happy, lazy Christians who do very little and are always enjoying themselves”)…..  check yourself …. these are clear signs that God has NOT told you to work so hard….. God may have “overworked” the Apostle Paul BUT He gave Him GRACE for it….. meaning, Paul’s spiritual character was not compromised but was enhanced….. Paul may have been stressed emotionally, physically and mentally but He had joy, peace, love and humility…… God gave Him all He needed for the task…. today there are so many examples of ‘stressed’ people who purport to be ‘fully dedicated to God and overworked in His service’….. and yet they have little tolerance for others who do not think like them…. little or no love for the ‘hardened sinners’ they are trying to ‘convert’….. it’s a sure sign that God is not the originator of that ‘overwork’….. they may think they are doing it for God….. they may even think that He ‘called’ them to do it…. but the evidence (personal spiritual character) suggests otherwise.

It is very wise to heed and to read  Matthew 20:10 – 13 ….. and contemplate this parable in the light of your own feelings about other people…. about God…. about other churches… etc.

Beware of ‘exclusivity’ and ‘narrow Biblical interpretations’ ….. God’s free gift of salvation to the human race through Jesus Christ ….. is not limited to particular ‘doctrines’ and ‘viewpoints’……  God is far from satisfied with people who may have the ‘correct’ doctrine but do not manifest ‘the fruit of the Spirit’ (Galatians 5:22 – 23) in their interaction with others of different ideas….

If you have totally surrendered to Jesus Christ may this document guide you as you seek to work in the Lord’s harvest.

relationships

How REAL is Jesus Christ to you today ?

Matthew 18:20 and  Matthew 28:20 …..

we see from these verses that Jesus Christ has the same omnipresence as GOD….. the reality is, that Jesus Christ is TODAY  present in His churches all over the world to observe all the worship being made to Him.

Whether you feel His presence depends on your RELATIONSHIP to Him…… how close is your relationship with the Son of God ?

To many He is just an “abstract idea”…. a man who died for our sins over 2000 years ago…. they go to some church…. sitting, standing, singing and praying and exit the service to get on with their lives (of which He is not truly a part)…. they do not “practice the presence of Christ”….. why ?

1. First of all, they may see it as futile… what’s the point ? …. Jesus will not appear to them… or directly interact in any other way.

2. Perhaps they know that Jesus Christ would NOT approve of their daily life…. their thoughts, speech and actions whether in private or with friends, is certainly not how they behave in church…. they are “two personalities”…. all spiritual on Sunday…. and “worldly” minded the rest of the week.

What I am saying is nothing new…. pastors have preached sermons like this for YEARS… trying to get the people to be more SERIOUS about their christianity !

My friends….. only the Holy Spirit can bring the reality of the presence of Jesus Christ into your life….. read  John 16:13-14 …. and the apostles knew this by experience (Romans 8:14).

When you have a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus, He will guide you in the paths of service appropriate for you….. and equip you to be successful… and you  do not have to fulfill the expectations of someone else (or even yourself) regarding what constitutes “good service”…. good service is doing what God wants you to do daily, whether it appears to you (or anyone else) to be successful or not.

Getting involved in service without having a personal relationship with Jesus is truly putting the “cart before the horse”….. unless your service is directed by God as the outcome of your relationship, it will not bear REAL spiritual fruit  (John 15:5) …. even though it might APPEAR as though you are doing a “great work” for God…. humanitarian and charity work  does not automatically draw souls into the Kingdom of God.

David had a relationship with God…. but from today’s viewpoint he would not have been a “good” person… he killed people…. and regularly asked God for vengence on his enemies… yet he LOVED the Lord with his whole heart.

This is what we sorely lack today….. although “much service” is going on….  WHOLE HEARTED LOVE for the Saviour is in short supply and so is FAITH in His promises… people are doing their “good” deeds for the praise of men… or sometimes, to appease their conscience..

BELIEVE that the Risen Saviour IS present with you at all times…. TALK to Him in FAITH .. and presently you will KNOW what it is He wants you to do.

Because UNLESS He directs your service (John 15:5) it is all in vain, regardless of how “good” it may appear to men.

God WANTS to communicate with us (Luke 11:13) and to guide and direct our lives….. but WE have to SEEK HIM on His terms and through FAITH….. He is definitely NOT a “genii in a bottle” from whom we can get instant “service and satisfaction”.

Our biggest problem is that we do not realize WHO GOD IS…… He is both immensely GREAT, WONDERFUL and ALL POWERFUL beyond our capability to fully comprehend it…. and yet, at the same time, He is ACCESSIBLE, INTIMATE and FRIENDLY…..  and you will get to better understand all this IF you actually READ the entire Bible…. but you must read it BELIEVING it to be TRUE…. because if you read it like any other “book of man”, looking for (and expecting) errors, ideas, theories and logic then you have become a JUDGE of the Bible and not a believer.

The Bible does not exist to be “judged” by your human “wisdom”…. the Bible is THE REVELATION of GOD to man…… it exists to be BELIEVED and OBEYED…..  and NOT JUDGED and DEBATED….

The real problem with humans has always been that they “think too highly of themselves”…. so either they CREATE a “god” to serve THEIR own purpose…. or else, they regard THEMSELVES as “god”….. and either way THE ALMIGHTY GOD (because He is NOT a “show off” like them) will just let them do what they wish…… for now…. UNTIL He is ready to deal with them…. HE has all the “time” in the UNIVERSE (in fact, HE dwells outside of time altogether)

What does the human have….  a mere 100 years, at best, IF they are lucky…

Seeking to KNOW this GREAT GOD is the most sensible thing that any human could do….. but the majority are just so caught up in their “own little world” that they never think of anything beyond their own life.

Like a bunch of rabbits in a cage….. are the humans scurrying around on this little planet…. and that’s the reality….. and except for the fact that GOD CARES, all of us would be as worthless as grass and the flower of grass (1 Peter 1:24) (Isaiah 40:6-8)
